Quilting, literally part of the texture of Ohio, is an artform that goes back centuries. In Ohio we are fortunate to have one of the world’s foremost quilt artists in Nancy Crow.

Crow has published numerous books and her art quilts reside places like the Smithsonian Museum and the Museum of Art & Design in New York City. She has earned dozens of awards and has displayed her quilts in numerous galleries and exhibitions. In the quilting world, she is a superstar.

A native of Loudonville who now resides in the Baltimore, Ohio, area, Crow is a living national treasure.

Crow has created more than 300 quilts of her own, many of which have been on exhibit in museums and galleries. “My quilts are how I see color; how I see shapes; how I see line. They are about complexity, sadness, hope and always beauty,” she states on her website.

She also focuses on passing along her knowledge to others by owning and operating the Crow Timber Frame Barn, a place where quilt art retreats and workshops are offered to aspiring quilt artists.

Crow also leads workshops away from her home state and leads craft tours to other countries such as South Africa, Bolivia, Peru, Guatemala and Mexico to explore the wide variety of quilt arts and to meet other artists.

If you’re a quilter, or if you are interested in quilting, there are many places to start, learn and buy supplies in Ohio. Many quilt shops are in Ohio’s Amish Country in Northeast Ohio, but there many located around the state. Here is a sampling of some of them.

Quilters are so talented. They love what they do and those who receive their quilts love them. Great article!
