The Donut Shop and Bakery on the Lake in Lakeview has been a staple at Indian Lake for years.

Who doesn’t love a good donut – or doughnut? However you spell it, there are literally hundreds more donut shops and bakeries than listed here. Here are a few that we’ve heard are notable ones.

Bill’s Donut Shop – A tradition since 1960, the shop was initially located in downtown Dayton. The shop moved to its current location in 1979. Buckeye DonutsBuckeye Donuts has been a campus classic since 1969, with fresh donuts, hot breakfast and made to order gyros at their location right across the street from The Ohio State University’s Main Campus. Country Cakes & Bakes – Locally owned Country Cakes & Bakes bakery offers fresh, scratch-made sugar cookies and many other types of cookies and bars, gift boxes, cookie trays, breakfast baked goods, round and sheet cakes, cheesecake bites and more. 409 W. Front St., New Holland (740) 497-6370.

Crispie Creme Donut Shop – Crispie Creme Donut Shop, a community meeting place and landmark in Chillicothe, has been crafting donuts since 1929. Dozens of varieties are available, such as Mountain Tops with peanut butter cream and peanut butter cream-filled bismarks topped with chocolate or peanut butter icing. 47 N. Destination Donuts – Locally owned Destination Donuts has fresh-made donuts worth leaving home for, like maple sausage, buckeye, dueling vanilla and salty caramel pecan. Donald’s Donuts – Family-owned Donald’s Donuts was founded in 1960. Over the years the shop became known for the best donuts around. The second generation is now carrying on the tradition and quality. 2262 Maple Ave., Zanesville (740) 453-4749. Connect on Facebook.

The Donut Shop – The Donut Shop and Bakery on the Lake, with its landmark neon sign, has been a mainstay in the Indian Lake area for years. Mary’s Amish Bakery – Amish bakery uses wood-fired ovens to bake pies and other baked goods. You can also find eggs, cheese, maple syrup, and all kinds of sweets and treats. 12813 CR 265, Kenton. No phone or online connection.

Pat’s Donuts & Kreme – Since 1983, Pat’s Donuts & Kreme has offered neighborhood bakery items, coffee, pizza and ice cream to the Lima area. Not only do they have some of the best donuts around, they also have cookies, brownies, muffins, pizza, subs, sandwiches and more. Locations:

Presti’s BakeryPresti’s Bakery was established in 1903 in Cleveland’s Little Italy. Resch’s Bakery’s history goes back to 1912 in Columbus.

Resch’s BakeryResch’s Bakery is known for their delicious cakes, pies, donuts, pastries, cookies and holiday specialties. Resch’s history goes back many generations. The first Resch’s Bakery building was built at 1029 E. Livingston Ave. in 1912.  The current bakery shop in east Columbus opened in the 1960s; a new location in Gahanna is set to open in spring 2025. Schuler’s Bakery – A Springfield tradition since 1937, Schuler’s Bakery is “The Home of Homemade.” Donuts, cakes, cookies, pies, noodles and more. 1911 Limestone St. or 2963 Derr Road, Springfield (937) 323-4900.

The Fat Apple Bakery – This shop is not only a bakery with baked goods, pies, pepperoni rolls and more, but has a huge selection of candy, chocolates, gourmet apples, mugs, purses, Mexican and other imported candy.
