The small town of Duncan Falls, located alongside the Muskingum River, has two unique stores – Starrett & Son Pro Hardware and Myer’s Studebaker Parts & Repair.

A family-owned business for five generations, Starrett & Son offers general hardware items from Allen wrenches and garden tools to firearms and ammunition, and genuine personal service to all who visit.

The store offers a full line of hardware, tools and supplies, propane fill, sharpening services, electrical and plumbing supplies, and paint matching, mixing and tinting. In their firearms department they offer federal firearm licensing transfers, ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local laws.

Starrett & Son Hardware, established in 1924, is located at 293 Main St., call (740) 674-4372.

Myer’s Studebaker Parts & Repair has everything Studebaker and Avanti owners need to find newly reproduced items, helpful information and technical tips as well as catalogued parts.

Studebaker began in 1852 making wagons, carriages, buggies and harnesses, and switched to automobiles in 1902. The company went out of business in 1966, so the automobiles are subject to a scarcity of parts and mechanical knowledge. Studebaker models included Avanti, Champion, Golden Hawk, Cruiser, Lark and many others.

The shop is owned by Jon and Betty Myer and operated by their son Michael. Jon started out at an early age tinkering with motors and cars. In high school he worked on cars with his friends and after serving in the U.S. Navy he moved from Ohio to California. There, he began working for a Ford dealer, then worked for American Airlines as a mechanic for over 29 years.

During this time he also ran an Avanti Service Center, a drop off point for cars being used in movies and those being delivered to customers. After working in California, he moved his business back home to Ohio and is now one of the nation’s foremost parts sources for Studebakers.
