This week in Dusty Tires on the Road we continue our drive on video south on State Route 60 from McConnelsville to Marietta, passing through the small communities of Beverly and Lowell along the way.

In this video drive, we also pass by the former site of Muskingum River Plant, which operated from 1953 to 2015 about four miles northwest of Beverly. The plant, owned by American Electric Power, operated five coal-burning units that together generated 1,529 MW of power.

But the star of this week’s show is undoubtedly Marietta. There’s so much to see and do in this city that one article or video does not suffice.

Marietta was the first settlement in the Northwest Territory in 1788, predating the birth of the State of Ohio by 15 years. This beautiful city oozes with historic architecture, museums, shops, restaurants and attractions. Events like the annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in September are popular.

See what there is to do and see in Marietta and Washington County.
