I am a fan and subscriber of a number of YouTube channels that emphasize travel. Now I’m launching my own YouTube channel featuring travel around Ohio. My video channel is called Dusty Tires, as is my website and blog.
I enjoy Truck House Life, that follows a man who built a cabin on the back of a flatbed truck that he uses to travel around Alaska and beyond; Traveling Robert and RVerTV, both about people who travel all over the U.S. in their RVs.
My favorite YouTube channel is Vice Grip Garage, about a guy who buys cars and trucks sight unseen, repairs them to driveable condition on site, and then drives them many miles back to his home in Tennessee for further restoration.
I received an action camera this past Christmas, and due to some of life’s circumstances, I haven’t been able to put the camera to much use until now. I took a couple of test trips to try the camera out this spring and started making longer trips this summer.
Above is my first official YouTube video, “Dusty Tires on the Road – US 40 to Cambridge,” that follows U.S. 40 from Zanesville to Cambridge in Muskingum and Guernsey counties.
My new video series is called Dusty Tires on the Road. Hopefully these will provide some entertainment, education and a sample of what else will be coming.
The first video in the series focuses on U.S. 40 and the National Road, from Zanesville to Cambridge. You’ll discover a covered bridge, two S-shaped bridges, museums, motels, historic homes and much more. I’ll travel another leg of U.S. 40 from Zanesville into Licking County as the next installment.
And yes, there were some glitches in my video editing. I missed one Dollar General store completely, and I was off by about a quarter of a mile on the location of the Peters Creek S-Bridge in Guernsey County. Believe me, editing video for YouTube is not as easy as it appears, but I’m learning.
The choice of U.S. 40 as the subject matter to record first was a natural one for me. I grew up in east Columbus about a mile south of the road, and for the past 16 years I’ve lived in Zanesville, about two miles north of the road. So it’s nearly always been part of my life’s landscape.
My overall plan is to travel Ohio’s state highways, U.S. routes and back roads, and point out some historic notes and interesting places to visit along the way. So far, I’m doing it like a casual music video rather than a narrated documentary. This will no doubt be a work in progress, so please be patient as I learn and refine new skills.
And please let me know by your comments how I can improve this video content. Are they too long or too short? Not enough or too much information? Do you want to listen to me talk while I’m driving or are you glad for my silence? I’m open to your suggestions.
You can find all Dusty Tires videos at the new Dusty Tires YouTube channel.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more and hopefully much more interesting video content on Dusty Tires.
