In a world where the prices of everything has been going up, especially in groceries, it’s good to know that there are plenty of small-town and country stores in Ohio that continue to provide high-quality products at reasonable prices.

You can’t call all of them bargain-priced, but these mainly family-owned and operated businesses serve basic foodstuffs as well as specialty foods.

Many, but not all, of them have Amish or Mennonite ownership, serving the needs of the local community as well as tourists. You will usually find service is personal, friendly and considerate at these places — a welcome change from self-serve checkouts at big-box grocery stores.

For a refreshing change of pace, try out any of these stores, mainly located in Ohio’s Amish Country in Northeast Ohio. You will find lots of items you don’t normally see in most grocery stores, in addition to items (mainly for baking) that can be bought in bulk.
